Guiding principles of the SELF Platform. a. SELF is a web-based platform for the collaborative authoring, remixing and organising of SCORM-compliant educational materials b. SELF is a teacher centric platform to prepare learner centric material. c. the SELF Platform complies with the SELF Founding principles, as defined in http://selfproject.eu/en/project/principles We divide the development work into three main phases: the first one covers the work as supported by the EC, until March 2008; additional requirements will be worked on till July 2008 to be presented at the FKFT.eu conference on 15 July (Phase II); any other work will be scheduled for Phase III. Phase I (until March 30th 2008): 1. Collections: browse, add, edit, remove (incl. subcollections); 2. Authoring courses (composite LO's as per SCORM specs) and lessons (LO's): browse, add, edit, remove and translate, author recognition; 2.a. including metadata 3. Organiser: re-organising the LO's in a course; 4. Bookshelf: add and remove LO's to the shelf and allow for recombinations; 5. Versioning, branching: version control system that allows for forking, merging, comparing; 6. Document Exchange: import and export of Courses and LO's as SCORM objects; 7. FileManager: uploading, removing files and including them into LO's (initial document types: image files, ODF, PDF documents) ; 8. Reputation Index & LO Popularity mechanisms*; 9. Internationalisation of UI; 10.Search function; 11. User: account, login, preferences, user page. * ad 8. in March 08 the backend should be ready; in April 08 the basic mechanisms will be integrated in the UI. Phase II (until June 30th: 1. User Interface improvements 2. Document Exchange: including SGML/DocBook, Texinfo 3. Improving translation options, including two panels for source and destination translation, 4 language preferences 4. Improvement of the Reputation and Pupularity indicators 5. Semantic neighbourhood based search 6. 7. Set up the Reference Material Storage server (a SELF instance with verbatim reference materials) 7. Work groups where multiple authors can work together on specific topics ... Phase III: 1.
