Evaluation

When you have submitted your documentary, it will be judged by the contest jury based in the following way, and based on the criterias outlined here.
  1. Assessment of the works will be based on the following criteria:
    • interpretation and presentation of the philosophy and principals of the SELF project and the ideology of Free knowledge;
    • originality of idea, inspiration, artistic merit and creativity
  2. The first step of the evaluation will determine whether the ideology of the Project is carried in the documentaries. Documentaries that do not convey the principles of the SELF Project (for instance by showing or advocating non-free software) will not be eligible to continue to the second step of the evaluation.
  3. In the second stage of the evaluation, the documentaries will be considered based on their artistic value, the originality of the documentary, and their ability to convey their message in a clear and interesting way.
  4. Each juror will evaluate these aspects of the work and rank the documentaries in a list, from the most eligible to win, to the least eligible.
  5. The lists from all jurors will be assembled and each documentary will be judged against every other documentary according to the Condorcet voting method. The documentary which the jurors prefer most to all other documentaries, will be the winner of the contest, with the rest of the documentaries following successively based on their relative scores.
  6. In case of a tie, a joint discussion and a simple majority vote between the jurors will decide the ordering of the documentaries.
