1. April 30: Early Bird and CFP deadlines for Free Knowledge, Free Technology Conference

SELF Consortium and Free Knowledge Institute have the pleasure to announce an international event of three exciting days of interaction and discussions on one of the most important topics nowadays - education and learning in freedom, in the paradigm of the information technologies.
Confirmed keynote speakers are:
- Richard M. Stallman (GNU Project and Free Software Foundation)
- Karel De Vriendt (EC/IDABC)
- Carlos Castro (Extremadura Government)
- Steven Downes (National Research Council Canada)
The programme itself consists of an elegant mix between the keynote speakers, panel discussions and parallel tracks. Participants choose between several parallel discussions, divided in streams on:
- Free Knowledge and Free Technologies in society - legal issues of Free Knowledge; who creates Free Knowledge; quality assessment in collaborative authoring systems; the economy and social implications of Free Knowledge and Free Technologies
- Free Knowledge and Free Technologies in public bodies, co-organised with CENATIC - case studies and success stories; development of Free Software within public bodies; interoperability; licensing and legal issues.
- Educating in Freedom, including a workshop of the FLOSSCom Project - technological aspects of e-learning; the SELF Platform; training Free Technologies advocates; showcase of free educational materials; the future of education.
The preliminary day-to-day programme will be announced shortly!
As part of the Conference, we are inviting you to witness the award ceremony of the "Free Knowledge, Free Technology" Open Documentary Contest .

3. Phases of Platform Development
The new report "SELF Platform Development: localised and tested system" can be found from May 1st 2008 onwards on the project website.
The SELF Team divided the development work into three main phases: the first one covers the work as supported by the EC, until March 2008; additional requirements will be worked on till July 2008 to be presented at the FKFT.eu conference on 15 July (Phase II); any other work will be scheduled for Phase III.
