Studio Totov with Cintia Paz and others have created the winning contribution to the SELF Project Open Documentary Concept. Their submission is called Cut the Circle and is available for anyone to view and change in accordance with the license of the documentary!

The original guidelines and information about the contest can be found below.

Create a documentary about the creation of free knowledge and education in the digital era! Get your friends together, encourage your company to participate, or just let your own creativity flow freely. The documentary should not exceed five minutes in length, and should relate to the SELF Project and Platform. Send it to the jury before June 30th 2008, and have it judged based on interpretation and presentation of the philosophy, creativity, originality, artistic merit and inspiration. Here are the quick facts of the contest:

  • The documentary should interpret the creation of free knowledge and education in the digital era and relate that to the SELF Project and Platform.
  • Maximum length is 5 minutes.
  • Language should be English, or English subtitles should be provided.
  • Submission should be done in Ogg Theora format, or sent by DVD to the jury.
  • The documentary must be licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA or the Free Art License.
  • Deadline is June 30th 2008.
The aim of this contest is to strengthen the SELF Platform, to centralise, transmit and enlarge the available knowledge on Free Software and Open Standards and to raise awareness and contribute to the building of critical mass for the use of Free Software and Open Standards. The contents of the short documentary is open to interpretations but should address subjects such as Free Software in education and various organisations, backgrounds of Free Software communities as well as concrete information about the SELF platform. It should also directly or indirectly imply the significance that such a platform carries. The best videos will be proudly used for further promotion of SELF to obvious SELF target groups as well as to the whole community of all interested parties associated with educational and training materials about Free Software and Open Standards.
